Garmin GPSMAP 276Cx
- I previously had a GPSMap 276 and used it all over the CONUS southwest for years. Used it so much in fact that the USB port disintegrated and Garmin wouldn\'t repair it. I still considered that I got my money\'s worth. I jumped on the 276 Cx as soon as I learned about it. After a few years of moderate use I\'m completely happy with it. 276 experience transferred well and I was up and running in no time. This system fits me--I function better with buttons and switches instead of touch-screens. Trying to tap a spot on a touch-screen in a moving vehicle is difficult for me and dangerous if i\'m driving. If this is not a complete off-road/marine solution I am not sure what one would look like. After hundreds of hours of bone-jarring boat rides and teeth-chattering washboard roads the unit has never hiccupped. It has operated in triple and single-digit temperatures. Never have I had any issues interfacing with any PC or software. I agree with some reviewers that the interface could use some refinement and what system couldn\'t use a beefier CPU, nothing is perfect. But don\'t give too much weight to all the nitpicking...this thing cost <$600 US, not $3000 and performs as advertised. It IS a shame to have to make four inputs when two or three would have done but how much of a handicap is that really? How seriously do such things really compromise functionality? The answer for me was, and is, not very much. The good things about this unit outweigh the bad overwhelmingly. Garmin online help is still pretty useless, support is still spotty, and their software remains frustratingly primitive. I guess that may never change but where else do we go (read some reviews of the equivalent Magellan unit)? Five stars on functionality and reliability alone, four overall.Amazon originally posted this review for the automotive bundle that i did not purchase and did not show as a verified purchase.
- I did not like that it was not touchscreen so I no longer use it. spoiled I guess.
- If you are looking for a convenience of use device, this is not for you, there is no touch screen and it is not the fastest device in the world. If you are looking for an outdoor adventure, or a multi purpose device for both auto and marine navigation, This is the device for you. Just be aware, there is no cover in the box, garmin sells one and it is not very expensive.
- you have to use the external mini jack from charging cradle to your speaker to hear an alarm....also you have to pay another $200 for the charts you need...nice screen long battery life
- Excelente GPS !!
- They don\'t tell you that it comes with like no software and you have to buy it.. Cost me $150.00 extra for City Navigator (only the SE coast) and the US Topo map SE coast as well..... Comes w/ useless worldwide map.. lol, no roads.. just an arrow...
- These type of units are priceless if you ride backcountry routes, etc., on motorcycles which is how I use it. It can also be used on a boat, car, etc. There\'s a whole lot of info available on these. Go ahead, get yourself one.
- Excellent portable marine GPS Chartplotter. I take it from my boat, to the dinghy to shore and back. Programming routes is simple. I have used it to map all the buoys and race marks in the area then printed up charts for handouts for events. Battery life is great.
