  • I wanted to wait until it was decent enough to go for a run outside so I could really give this a good review, as that\'s the main reason I got this watch. I\'ve had it for about 6 weeks now, so I\'ve gotten quite used to it and it\'s functions.BATTERY: Holy wah, let me tell you about this long lasting battery. With just basic notifications and 3-4 20-30 minute indoor workouts a week, this battery will last between 5.5 to 7 days. It charges crazy fast, too - from 4% to 100% in about an hour. Using it on my run last night, with Spotify and GPS tracking, it used 5% battery in the span of 20 minutes. Not too bad, unless you\'re going to do a really long run with music. With my indoor workouts, it will usually only use about 2% battery with just the workout running, even if I\'m moving back and forth between HR Zones and the timer/lap.The downside of the battery: When having to download music with Spotify (or whatever music you listen to), it uses the most battery. I have a specific playlist of 54 songs that only took about 15 minutes to download, but did use about 25% battery during that time.FUNCTIONALITY: I don\'t have a chest strap or any extra gadgets to go with this, and most of my workouts are done inside (rural Montana = cold and snow until May or June sometimes, making outdoor runs hard for 2/3 of the year). With that being said, I\'ve use the Indoor Cycling and Yoga workout functions the most so far, but with the companion app, I can add in my distance and poses. It\'s a pain adding poses, but it\'s easy to add my indoor milage. During the workouts, it monitors time, has a lap function, and it monitors HR (duh, right?). It allows me to really push myself if I\'m wanting the intense workouts and knowing when I\'m at my HR threshold and above to get the most out of my workouts. That being said, I have had a couple times during workouts where it states my HR is at 90, but I can feel it beat much faster and obtaining a manual HR shows it\'s much higher. Usually that means I have to adjust my strap in the middle of the workout - once I did have to switch to the other arm to get an accurate read.NON-WORKOUT FUNCTIONS: Aside from workouts, I also use the alarm. You can choose between vibration, sound, or both. Waking up to a light vibration on my arm is way better than even a nice melodic alarm from my phone. I\'ve also stopped noticing I\'m wearing the watch most of the time. If you wear it in the shower and it gets wet, the band does irritate the skin. I always make sure to take it off and dry if I do dishes, working with plants, bathing the dogs...etc. It does have to be a little tighter to accurately monitor heart rate, so I do occasionally switch from arm to arm if my wrist does start getting irritated, as the band has notches all the way up so it will fit any wrist. The notifications are pretty nice, so I can see if it\'s an emergency while not needing my phone on me, and even short responses if needed (yes, no, OK, Can\'t talk now, On my way!, I\'ll call you later, What\'s up, and Love you! - if it\'s from Messenger it even includes the option to \"like\" the message). I believe you can even create a list of your own customized responses.CUSTOMIZATION: There\'s a lot of apps you can download and seem to be pretty endless. I was super pumped when the first watch face I found was PipBoy! Even if you use the generic watch faces that come with the watch, there\'s about 20 options to choose from to customize what you see at a glance (heart rate, steps, calories burned, notifications, sunset/sunrise, weather, notifications, battery life....). It did take a bit once I downloaded it to actually download, and then even longer to be added to my watch. You can also really customize what you want to have quick access to seeing on the watch, as well as the order so you have easy access to notifications, HR, steps, basically whatever is most important to you.COMPANION APP: Not going to lie, at first I was like \"aw man, another app just to have a place to monitor and look at everything???\" But let me tell you - this app has everything. Through the app, I can get a breakdown of my day - HR, HR Zones, steps, calories burned which include both active and passive, (when setting up the app, you do input gender, weight, height, and it auto-formats your HR Zones and BMR - which again, you can edit yourself if needed!), sleep tracking, stress level, and you can even add in hydration and menstrual tracking. Basically everything can be edited. And as stated earlier, you can update/edit your workouts from the app, including adding notes! The one caveat is that with the sleep tracking, it\'s relatively accurate, but not perfect by any means as it relies on movement to determine awake-ness. You can edit your start and end times for sleeping, but can\'t edit in the middle so if you are awake for 2 hours in the middle of the night, tossing and turning, it more than likely won\'t register more than a few minutes of being awake before counting it as light or REM sleep (I know this from experience).MAIN ISSUES I\'VE FOUND: The main purpose I got this watch was for the purpose of running and being able to listen to my music without having my phone on me and having to deal with running apps to monitor my runs. A one-stop-shop, if you will.Issue 1: I made the mistake of adding one song to my running playlist on my phone and thus it required an update on my watch. It took an hour of back and forth on connecting to the wifi through the watch, but being unable to connect to wifi with Spotify through the watch. This is not a new problem, as shown with lots of Garmin message boards. However, that day I wasn\'t in a rush and just kept trying it until it finally worked. Be aware of this issue if you are looking at this watch for the sole function of having music - it may not work as smoothly.Issue 2: Adding my Skull Candy Method headphones was really easy. However, when running, the connection got lost about 2 minutes into my run, resulting in me trying to re-connect the headphones while running. Took a couple minutes, but I got it, and it was fine the rest of the run. This also can be a known issue, and the best solution is to wear your watch on the wrist closest to the bluetooth receiver on the headphones.Overall, I\'m incredibly pleased with this watch. It was pretty easy to get up and running, relatively easy to figure out without a manual or guide, and does what I need it to do. I love the being able to see a lot of my fitness information in one go, being able to monitor my water intake, and not have to carry my phone on runs.
  • It just stopped working after my Saturday workout. Seems to be related with one of the buttons; I followed the recommended steps to fix the buttons without success; and seems there is something with the SW as well, it didn’t erase the kilometers accumulated on the week; it used to do it at the end of the week (Saturday). Bummer! My previous model is still working
  • UPDATED 4/11/18: I have not yet contacted Garmin as they responded, but I plan to do so. However, I did notice this past Sunday (when home most of day) that my watch battery lasted much longer than normal after I recharged it. It led me to think that when I am away from home it may be searching for a new WiFi network. I don\'t want to add my work WiFi, which can be weak. I can\'t figure out if there is a way to just \"Turn Off\" WiFi on my watch, so I just went to my Garmin app and removed my home WiFi network. For me personally, I don\'t think I really need the WiFi, since I sync to to the app on my phone. After 3.5 days (including one-Music only run and one GPS-only run for about an hour total) my battery is still at 50%. This is a huge improvement! It makes me feel much better about the watch. Now I\'ll just respond to Garmin and hope some of the other kinks can be worked out, because I really do like the fit and most of the features.Original Review: I was very excited to get this watch. As a female with a smaller wrist, I was excited for the smaller size. I had still been using my trusty old Garmin 205 on runs until just about a year ago, and tried running with phone apps over the last year. I was excited that this watch would get be back to running with fewer cords and gadgets.Starting with the pros, the watch does fit very comfortably and looks nice. It fit me much better than the 935 and the 235 I have tried on. For me personally, I tried it on a run with GPS and music yesterday and didn\'t have the connectivity issues some other people have noted with their Bluetooth headphones. For reference, I was using SoundPEATS which aren\'t highest sound quality but connectivity was decent on run (wearing watch on my left wrist). For Cons, I have had two issues with the watch. First, with the battery life. It is advertised as up to 7 days in smart watch mode. With the colder than normal winter and icy conditions, I haven\'t been able to get outside as much as I would like to. Therefore, strength training and treadmill running have been my go-to exercises. And since I had to research and order headphones, the first week and a half of use was without music. Even with no GPS tracking and no music, I can\'t get the battery to last past 4 days. (Which concerns me because the battery lives only seem to deteriorate over time.)I got my headphones two days ago, and a 35 minute outing with GPS and music used about 17% of my battery. I thought this was a fair, maybe slightly below expectations, based on the advertisement of 5 hours with GPS and music. The next day (on same battery charge) used it on a 4.5 mile walk for about an hour with GPS (no music as i was talking with a friend). When I was finished, my battery was still above 50%. However, less than an hour later, my watch buzzed and told me I only had 10% battery left (this is only about 36 hours since my last complete charge). I noticed the watch wasn\'t connect to my phone either (which was in range.) I have read a few other reviews that noted issues reconnecting to phone after GPS use I am not sure whether my watch was killing the battery trying to pair with the phone or what it was doing (it was not in GPS mode, i checked), but something zapped the battery. The second con I would like to point out is something I have read in other reviews. On my test run with GPS + Music, my watch reset itself at exactly mile two, after the voice prompts of my distance and pace. (For reference, my software was updated to the most recent version of 2.5 two days ago.) I would have been very frustrated if I were out for a hard run, as it made me stop wait for green triangle screen to clear, restart music and make sure my run was still being tracked.I really want to love the watch, it fits and looks nice. But I am seriously considering whether it is worth the extra investment for me personally.
