- I use the Garmin Driveluxe 51 NA LMT for personal use. This is not my first GPS, but I can say it is the best.It is so easy to navigate, and especially when you are looking for places to eat, sleep, etc. I thought the price was a little high, but the performance makes up for that. I would definitely buy this again.
- I\'m not planning to return this GPS, but based on the Garmin website advertising I expected more from this product. I wanted something different from my cell phone\'s GPS options, Google Maps (great directions, weak graphics, not enough turn notification on local streets) and Waze (better than its original Candy Crush-like graphics but still a bit too busy and occasionally distracting). I also did not want to see emails, texts or, worse, incoming calls that block the directions entirely.I was not entirely aware before purchase that this unit depends on a Bluetooth link to your phone, and a separate app to download, for live traffic. As a result, the unit\'s \"Smart Notifications\" alert me to emails, texts and article notifications (e.g., Wall Street Journal) that my phone has. Trying to hit the X to close the notifications window while driving is too hard; sometimes the map expands and stops showing the driving route. I need a Rhodes scholar to help me shut off this Smart Notifications option without removing it from my cell phone.I wanted something entirely independent of my cell phone. This product isn\'t it. Worse yet, its Bluetooth connection to my phone frequently disengages and flashes a large message that it is disconnected. Poof, no live traffic report!Another headache: I had to search high and low for a dashboard mount. Some states ticket you for mounting these units to glass (a distraction). The units also get hot during use, so a hot sun does it no favors. Many dashboards are curved, and the included suction mount won\'t adhere. So be prepared to look for a suitable mount. (The best one for my needs turned out to be the ARKON GN079WD Replacement Upgrade or Additional Windshield Dashboard Sticky Suction Mounting Pedestal with 3-Inch Arm for Garmin nuvi GPS.) Considering the price of the unit and various state rules, you\'d think Garmin would include this $13 add-on.The saving grace for this unit is the graphics. Large, legible, and the entrance and exit alerts for highway driving is unsurpassed. However, the end is near for these Garmin products. As soon as automakers fully integrate Android Auto and Apple Carplay into their dashboards, this oldie will be obsolete. And frankly, if you have a large-screen smart phone, an unlimited data plan and a dashboard mount, you don\'t need this product.
- I purchased this for a 2500 + mile vacation. Once the speed limit was not accurate in a National Park. But other than that, it worked great. I had it mounted to a Garmin friction pad mount on the dash of my truck. I was always able to see the screen without any glare. I like the way it says things like \"Turn at next stoplight.\" The red light camera warning came up once which is nice. I used to have an older Garmin gps on a motorcycle. It was pretty primitive compared to this one. I liked the voice command feature. I learned that you have to select the \"Along this route\" to work on a saved route when using voice command. Otherwise it tries to find it close to you and comes up with some funny names. After selecting along this route, it found what we were looking for every time. We didn\'t download the app to use for traffic congestion. So, I can\'t comment on that feature. This one allows you to choose different routes. A feature I like, but didn\'t use on this trip. My old Garmin wouldn\'t let me select a route.I was towing a travel trailer. And I loved the way it navigated me through the bigger cities we went through. It\'s commands were timely, clear, accurate, and allowed me to keep my eyes on the road instead of having to look at the screen. However, the picture of the exit is a nice feature if you do need to glance. At one point in a big city, it wanted me to stay in the 2nd lane from the left. Not only did it say that, but it showed a split screen picture of the interstate with that lane highlighted as we were moving real time until we passed all of the \"Exit Only\" lanes. For us, this was money well spent.
