  • The product page describes the features perfectly well, so I\'ll just cover a couple other details here. This works great almost all the time; my only problem is that it doesn\'t get a signal in my garage at my apartment building, so I have to pull out into the road before it can calculate my route. Luckily, that hasn\'t really been an issue so far since I almost always know the first turn to take before this finishes calculating the route. The routes themselves are almost always good if you keep the software/maps up to date (not hard, you just have to plug it into your computer every once in awhile). In the worst case scenario, it had me drive onto a dirt road that I\'m pretty sure was not meant to be driven on by your average person. Other than that, it\'s guided me onto a few one lane roads (the kind where you\'re allowed to drive both directions but have to pull off or squeeze by when cars come from the opposite direction) with no warning, which was a little scary. My favorite thing about the GPS itself is that you can tell this to avoid certain areas (you can enter a road name to avoid if you want, but more broadly, you can tell it to avoid toll roads, highways, ferries, U-turns, and a couple other things). It also has a few different default route modes: I use the shortest distance option, but you can also do fastest time and if you buy Garmin\'s Ecoroute device, it can also choose a route based on highest fuel efficiency.I personally didn\'t buy this for the traffic detection features, but if that\'s part of why you want this, LOOK ON GARMIN\'S SERVICE MAP BEFORE YOU BUY. The traffic detection on this version is mostly only available in major cities, so it\'s never been useful to me. The GPS signal itself works great: I frequently drive in very rural locations, and the signal never disappears (except in my garage of course).By far the most useful feature for me aside from the obvious GPS functionality has been the speed monitor. My current car has more than its fair share of problems, and one of those problems is a sometimes inaccurate speedometer, which is where this comes in especially handy. I have this turned on every time I drive, even when I know exactly how to get there because it has its own more accurate speedometer so I never risk unknowingly driving too fast. This model is pretty unobtrusive about it; it dings if you\'re getting close to a school zone, but other than that, if you drive above the speed limit, the Garmin\'s speedometer just turns red. My sister has a different model and it will make a sound to remind you that you\'re driving into an area where the speed limit drops, so if you want that feature, check out Garmin\'s other models instead. While this model isn\'t listed as compatible with custom voice files, I was able to make a custom voice anyway. Not a particularly important feature, but still something little I thought was cool about this.My car only has one 12V power source, and this needs to be plugged into that if you\'re using it for any noticeable amount of time or if you want it to detect traffic (it can\'t do that without being plugged in). So a downside that\'s minor for me is that I can\'t charge my phone while I\'m driving unless I give up on using my GPS that day. Obviously, this is only an issue if your car only has one power source and you have other items to power. It\'s not a big issue, but it is occasionally annoying if I have to travel far and get to my destination with a half-dead phone because I couldn\'t charge it. As far as I\'ve seen, there\'s no officially supported power cord that leaves room to plug other things in too.The default mounting solution that ships with this is technically illegal in many US states. I decided to buy the extra friction mount so this can sit on my dashboard instead, but my sister (who has used her Garmin longer than I have) has always used the suction mount and never had any issues with cops, even when being pulled over for other reasons. It\'s something to consider, but probably not a big deal in most areas.Sometimes there\'s a glare so that I can\'t see the screen even on the brightest settings. I\'ve been able to get around this by just making sure the volume is high enough to let me get by with only voice directions until I can see again. For the price, I really can\'t complain. $130 for the 6\" base model is cheap enough that I\'m not really worried about any of the minor issues I mentioned here. If you\'re willing to pay for the better models, you can probably get more/better functionality, but this model works great as a GPS in every area I\'ve used it, and I plan on continuing to use it for a long time.
  • I\'m on my Third Garmin and the 2639LMT is top billing in my book. Took about 20min total to Update the Software and Maps. I also installeda 32GB Micro SD Card for future updates and I bought a Garmin Beanbag Mount ( Beanbag Mount works Great! ).I tested the Navigator on a 350 mile Test Run to 3 different Auto Dealerships and 3 different Motorcycle Dealerships in 3 Different Cities that I have not been to before. I arrived to all 6 destinations with no problems at all. I added in waypoints on the fly and the 2639 recalculated Route, Distance and Arrival Time pretty quick, under a couple of seconds. Junction View, Active Lane Assist, Up Ahead Lane Assist and Real Directions worked like a champ with no errors. Remember folks, this is to Destinations I\'ve not been to before. On Local Routes that I know, sometimes the Navigator will not set the best possible Route that YOU know but guess what, the Nav Unit will recal on the fly, so it\'s not really a big deal, but with that said, the 2639 will get you to where you want to go, that\'s the important part.I set up the Trip Data in the right pane to show \"Distance\" ( to destination ), \"Arrive In\" and Compass \"Direction\". The \"Distance\" and \"Arrive In\" does Count Down. The only way to set this up is after you set in a destination, but after you set it up, the custom settings are retained when you start a new Destination, so don\'t worry about the setting when you\'re not Navigating, they\'ll show up when you enter a destination and start Navigating. They are also retained when you\'re in Demo Mode.Pros:- 6\" Display- Fast Satellite Acquisition, Under 5 Seconds.- Photo Realistic Junction View.- Active Lane Assist.- Garmin Real Directions.- Fast Calculations to Destination.- Easy to Customize the POI and Trip Data and other Features.- Easy to set waypoints and do it on the fly.- Clear, Bright, Crisp Maps.- School Zone Warnings.- Accurate MapsCONS:- Sometime the Route set by the 2639 is not the best way that YOU know.- Sometimes hard to see when the SUN is in a Bad Angle, but that is rectified with Polarized Sun Glasses and changing the Angle of the Display little bit.- Non-Powered Mount. As for the Traffic Feature, I\'ve not Tried that as it\'s not that Important to me, yet.Features I wish Garmin would Implement:- Choice of Maps to install as the lower 48 would be good enough for me and it would save Memory Space.- Powered Magnetic/ Clip On Mount. As I said earlier, I\'m on my Third Garmin, my First two were the 65LM and 67LM, they were great units but I gave the 65LM to my Wife as she didn\'t have one and the 67LM to my Daughter ( Her built in NAV was garbage and very user unfriendly plus it was $200 for each Map Update ).I bought the 2630LMT as Blue Tooth and Voice Command was not Important to me, my Car handles that Function quite well. The 2639 is a keeper. I Highly Recommend the 2639LMT..............
