The Forerunner 35 is Garmin's simple solution to gathering biometric training data during the simplest form of endurance training. It's built to be a stand-alone GPS running companion that handles everything from heart rate monitoring to route mapping with no phone or ancillary heart rate strap or footpod needed. Garmin assures us that you can \"Just put on the Forerunner 35 and go\"; however, since it's so unobtrusive and its benefits extend well beyond fitness training, chances are good you'll already have it on. Since that's the case, you can skip step one and proceed directly to \"go.\" The Forerunner 35 dials down the functionality of some of Garmin's more expensive models, resulting in a simplified interface for tracking running and walking without the clutter of multisport features. It's something of a bridge between the vivofit and Forerunner lines, combining biometric and lifestyle data with the added oomph of GPS tracking and route mapping. Compared to the vivoactive, it sacrifices multisport functionality while adding the above-mentioned heart rate monitor. If you're primarily a pedestrian athlete, then the vivoactive's golf, swim, and cycling modes won't be missed. The heart rate monitor will prove invaluable, though, both during training sessions and your everyday life. While you're logging workouts, the Forerunner 35's GPS capabilities track distance and speed while mapping the route. While these features do extend to time in the saddle, the unit is designed primarily for running. The addition of Garmin Move IQ means the Forerunner 35 transitions seamlessly from running to walking while keeping a constant eye on steps taken. The optical, wrist-based heart rate monitor is a constant feature, though, and while it may not offer the precision of a trained medical professional constantly checking your pulse, it does keep you abreast of exertion levels including intensity minutes. This lets it manage interval training for you, letting you focus on exertion ...

Garmin Forerunner 35 Watch, Black (Renewed)

  • first time buying a refurbished product. I was concern about battery life, but it is working well.
  • I lost an Amazfit Bip and replaced it with this Garmin Forerunner 35. I run, bike and/or hike on a weekly basis so I like having a GPS tracker with the most common functions, but I don\'t need anything hard core or need to read emails and social media. It suits my needs. It is chunkier than the Bip, has a B/W display and isn\'t touch sensitive, but that\'s ok with me. The GPS locks quicker than the Bip and so far has been more precise in its tracking. I can set the alarm from the watch rather than from my cell phone which was an annoyance with the Bip. Pairing with my Android phone was a chore and took several tries over two days. I was to the point where I thought I might have to send it back. But then for reasons I don\'t understand one time it paired and I\'ve been good to go ever since. It is a \"renewed\" watch, but it looked brand new to me when I unboxed it. The \"limelight\" watch band has more yellow in it than I expected based on the Amazon post - more on the yellow side of chartreuse. It\'s similar to the lime green you see on some fire engines. Fine with me. I just wanted something bright and it\'s that for sure. Battery life seems good so far. I left the watch overnight in the (futile) process of pairing with my phone and that ate half of the battery, but since then the battery life indicator hasn\'t budged. So far, after a week\'s use, I\'m satisfied.
  • I bought this watch renewed and paid about 1/3rd what I paid for my new Garmin Instinct last year. I will be selling the Garmin Instinct and keeping the Garmin Forerunner 35.There are so many reviews, that I won\'t go into tremendous detail other than to say this watch is very efficient and intuitive, and you can\'t put a price on that. I simply walk out of the house, click two buttons, and start exercising. While I\'m exercising, I don\'t have to deal with any nonsense. I can glance at the watch face if I want to know my heartrate or how long I\'ve been walking/running, but I don\'t otherwise have to interact with the watch. Later, when I\'m done with my walk or run, I can do a deep-dive with the Garmin app to see exactly where I went on a map (a huge feature for me, since I want to explore new places to walk/run), what parts of the walk/run were strenuous, at which points my heart rate or pace increased or decreased, etc.My only complaint about this watch is all the notifications. I have to figure out how to turn them off, because they are useless. You see the first few words of a text or notification, but not who it\'s from, or not even which app sent the notification. I\'m not being harsh: They really are useless notifications given the character limit on the watch face. But this watch is a solid \"buy.\" I love it otherwise.
  • I just wear the watch to work, and I couldn\'t imagine a more perfect watch for a nurse. The battery lasts for over a month with the GPS turned off. \"If you\'re not going to use the super accurate GPS, why get a Garmin,\" you ask?1. The step counter is very reliable. I have used the watch with the GPS both off and on when I go on a loop run, and the step counter manages to calculate the exact same distance as the GPS. Granted I can\'t track the route in the Garmin Connect app without the GPS on, but I don\'t really care when I\'m running a loop.2. The display is \"always on.\" No flipping your wrist up hard - no harder - to get the display to turn on. This is huge for me since I need to look at the display when my hands are in weird positions providing patient care.3. The digital clock shows military (or healthcare, whichever you prefer) time. My Samsung Galaxy watch doesn\'t. Tsk tsk Samsung.4. Alarm is easy to access and I can set multiple alarms. Makeshift \"timer\" is just three clicks of the little running man button. (This will start timing your \'indoor run,\' which you can end as soon as you\'ve competed your task to be timed.) There is no actual timer that I have found on this Garmin.5. As I mentioned above, the battery life lasts forever. Seriously 6-8 weeks is normal. Once I even got it to last for 3 months. It\'s just crazy. The Samsung, tsk, lasts less than a day.I\'m not reviewing all of the great features I don\'t regularly use, because I feel I can\'t do them justice. But, if you like, this watch also shows email, text, and weather notifications using bluetooth, has a very awesome GPS that quickly maps a run on your phone, and a nifty app that allows you to track your sleep. I\'ve used all the features in the past but find it too distracting at work to get a notification everytime some spam hits my inbox. And although this watch is reasonably comfortable, sleeping with a watch on just isn\'t my jam.So there you have it, my long overdue review of this very useful watch tool.
  • Overall I liked the watch because it looks nice and has long battery life. However, I\'d like to share some aspects that I wish it could have:1. Missing data field name: the watch can display different data fields, however on the display, it does not show the name of the data fields. It only displays 3 lines of data which made it hard to figure out what is what. For example, when use biking mode, I enabled cadence. The cadence is in around 60 - 90 (may go 100) range, at the same time, the heart rate is in about the same range as well. It is really hard to figure out which field is which because it does not have a head name of the data field. It is the same with walking pace. When all those numbers on the screen, without showing the name of the numbers, it is hard to read.2. The heart rate seems not quite accurate. I saw my resting heart rate was about 30, 40 sometimes which is impossible.3. Walking mode does not auto pause. It is very easy to detect pause however, the watch timer continues even when I was stopping and waiting for friends.Otherwise it is a nice watch and the price is good as well.
